One thing you have to realize about the SSF2 meta is that it's really, really, really balanced. General idea of the tier list is (tiers are far more important than order within tiers) On the other hand, it's difficult to play MK in a rewarding, entertaining manner, and I don't think most people find his optimal playstyle very fun.

He's proven to be effective in the hands of a talented player, and just playing around with the character for a bit will give you a feeling for how free some of his stuff is. In summary, MK is a perfect tournament character in terms of match ups you'll never have bad bracket luck. If you're going to have a pocket top tier, it's usually better to chose anyone but Meta Knight in order to gain access to some of the really lopsided MUs in the game. Most of his other matchups are close to 55/45 or 60/40 in his favor. It's hard to say any character outright beats MK, but unlike most top tiers, MK himself only really completely invalidates 2 or 3 characters in the entire game. In a game where nearly any character can do stylish things, it's hard to justify picking up a character that gravitates towards being played "lame".įor a top tier, his match up spread is surprisingly close to even across the board. Compared to the ridiculous, over the top punish games of the majority of the cast, MK's combo game is devastatingly effective but tends to be the opposite of flashy. MK's playstyle in SSF2 is somewhat uninteresting compared to the other characters in the game. However, Lunary switched to playing Melee about a year ago, and no one has seriously picked up the character since. Lunary, a dominant player when he was active, did in fact use Meta Knight and achieved great success with both him and Lloyd. The exact reason for this is anyone's guess, but there are definitely a few contributing factors: Meta Knight is in this weird position where he's generally regarded as the best character, but currently has exactly zero high level players.
